Model United Nations and Advanced Geography    Ages 8-13
In this course, students learn how the UN addresses global concerns. They study the
structure, authority, and processes of the UN through lectures, readings, discussions, and
research. In addition, they examine how physical, economic, cultural, and political
geography influence and inform policymaker’ decisions. Students hone their writing,
speaking, and critical thinking skills as well as gain a working knowledge of international
relations and geography. Students assume the role of ambassadors for a model United
Nations simulation. Each student researches a particular country and determines where this
country would stand on issues before the UN. As novice diplomats learning the art of
compromise, students negotiate resolutions, learn parliamentary procedure, and build
coalitions to represent their nations’ best interests.

The Debate Team            Ages 8-13
This course is designed to build student confidence by teaching public speaking techniques
and debate skill strategies. Students will participate in mock trials and learn to prepare
speeches. This course will prepare your future District Attorney to argue his case in front of
the Supreme Court!

Multicultural Art                                                                                 Ages 8-10
Every culture has its own form of expression. You will learn about the history and custom of
several different cultures. Create many works of art of which you will be very proud. This
course culminates in a magnificent art show that is a celebration of cultural diversity and
harmony.

Mystery Writing                                                                                  Ages 8-10
This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of the mystery writing genre.  Students
will read various examples of mystery stories. They will compare modern versus classic
version. Your child will also be taught the writing techniques of the pros. Finally, your child
will write their very own mystery
story which will be published at the end of the course.

The Eldridge Overton Gazette                                                          Ages 8-10
Calling all reporters, editors and publishers! The Eldridge Overton Gazette has immediate
openings in all areas. Qualified applicants are responsible for researching, writing and
editing stories for a daily newsletter. Be prepared to meet deadlines and produce at least one
news story per day. If you have the required qualifications, sign up for this class immediately.
The pay is minimal, but the rewards are great!

Digital Photography                                                                          Ages 8-10
Come learn how much fun it can be to take your pictures and see your picture images right
away. This course includes use of a digital camera and digital photography software. Learn
exciting techniques for manipulating pictures. Learn how to use pictures to make scrap
books, journals, and class presentations. Students must supply their own cameras.

Gifted and Talented Summer Institute I                                          Ages 9-12
The Institute will offer eligible students the opportunity to engage in challenging academic
work in the company of peers who share their exceptional abilities and love of learning.
Students will have the opportunity to learn about Greek mythology, read Shakespeare, study
Algebra, and learn about the different genres of writing. Prerequisite: Students must score
advanced proficient on the most recent state assessments or score in the 95th percentile on
a tested area of the standardized tests administered by their schools, i.e., Terra Novas, Iowas,
CATS, SRAs, etc. In addition, students who have been identified as academically gifted by
their school districts have the opportunity to apply. Scores must be accompanied with a
letter of recommendation from school principal or guidance counselor.

Gifted and Talented Summer Institute II                                      Ages 9-12
This course is a continuation of G/T Institute I.  Students MUST have attended the G/T
Institute I to enroll in G/T II. Students will continue with advanced algebraic concepts. We
will explore and analyze one of the great literary giants. Additionally, students are introduced
to the PSAT! Prerequisite: Students must score advanced proficient on the most recent state
assessments or score in the 95th percentile on a tested area of the standardized tests
administered by their schools, i.e., Terra Novas, Iowas, CATS, SRAs, etc. In addition, students
